Bohm Social Justice Initiative
Between October 30 and November 27, 2008, members of the Jewish community engaged in a variety of social action activities for Cheshvan, Jewish Social Action Month. Highlights include:
JCRC Outerwear Drive
During the month of November, members of the Jewish community collected coats, jackets, hats, gloves and scarves for those in need.
On November 25th, 300 coats and jackets, plus outwear items, were delivered to the St. Louis International Institute for use by recent immigrants.
"Delivering the 300 coats, hats, gloves and scarves to the International Institute was a very rewarding experience for me," said Leslie Bursack, Chair of the 2008 Outerwear Drive. "Some of the recipients iof the International Institute's services were eager and ready to assist with the unloading of my over-stuffed van and all of the people who were at the center that day were anxious to pick out their new cold weather attire. It's a nice feeling to be able to help fill such a huge need in the community."

In addition, approximately 40 coats plus additional outerwear were donated to the Bernard Long Elementary School in Madison, Illinois. Many of the children were able to receive warm coats right before Thanksgiving.
