Green Community Program
Kehilah Shomeret Adamah
JEI provides congregations, organizations and institutions with information and resources to help them become environmentally friendly. By taking the lead in preserving the environment, congregations serve as role models to their members.
All Jewish congregations and agencies are invited to participate in the Green Community Program. JEI will individually assist in providing information about the benefits of reducing waste, keeping energy costs down, using recyclable materials, reducing the use of toxics in cleaning supplies, using environmentally friendly materials, and incorporating Jewish values into environmental awareness.
2008 JEI Programs - Going Green
May 15, 2008 - "Is Your House Poisoning You?"
This lunch and learn program, co-sponsored by JEI and Hadassah, focused on eco-friendly cleaning products and paint products. Participants received useful information about how to make their homes, congregations and work places more green. Speakers were JEI member Rebecca Gabris and Katie Silberman, J.D. of the Science & Environmental Health Network. Handouts provided at this event are available by contacting Gail Wechsler (see contact information below).
Katie is the Associate Director of the Science & Environmental Health Network (www.sehn.org). She was previously Associate Director and Policy Director of the non-profit Center for Environmental Health in Oakland, California. Katie's work has focused on reducing communities' exposure to environmental harm through policy change, advocacy and activism and she has been published in several national publications. Katie recently moved back to St. Louis, her home town, with her husband and baby. |
